AICV® Medium Oil

The AICV® Medium Oil is designed for medium oil, i.e. 22 < API Gravity < 31. The AICV® will be fully open for oil and shut-off water and gas. The AICV® Medium Oil is extensively tested and qualified for oil viscosities at reservoir conditions from 5-50 cP.

The AICV flow performance curve for single phase medium oil, water and gas is shown in Figure 1. The figure shows that the unwanted production of gas and water is efficiently choked. Oil ICD strength can be varied, depending on the reservoir and well performance.

The choking sequences for the AICV can be optimized by the number of valves in each zone. Each zone arise isolated with packers in the annulus along the horizontal section. The choking sequence for water is shown in Figure 2, and represents a zone with five AICVs. When pure oil is produced from the zone, all AICVs are open. When water breaks through, the local water cut increases and the AICVs start to choke. The AICVs only close fully when there is almost no oil (less than 2%). The AICVs will autonomously open when the zone is refilled with oil.

The choking sequences for gas are shown in Figure 3, and represent a zone with five AICVs. The closure sequence shows that with pure oil all AICVs are open. When the free gas increases in the zone the local GVF increases and the AICVs start to choke. The AICVs close fully only when there is almost no oil (less than 2%). The AICVs will autonomously open when the zone is refilled with oil.
